With three years to go, excitement and community engagement grow for LA28

With just over three years to go until the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, the LA28 Organising Committee has completed a series of important milestones, which have laid a strong foundation for operational readiness, growing public anticipation, and deepening community engagement. These achievements were highlighted during this week’s visit to the host city by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission, which reviewed progress across all areas of Games planning. LA28 Olympics to feature an expanded roster of 12 teams per gender in 3×3 Basketball

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s Executive Board on Wednesday announced its decision to increase the quota to 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams for 3x3 basketball as part of the Olympic Basketball program for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. For the first time in history, all team sports will have at least the same number of women’s teams as men’s teams, with water polo adding two women’s teams, making it now 12 women’s and 12 men’s teams. Football, with 16 female teams, will feature more women’s teams than men’s (12). Gender equality was a key cons...
