Prosecution of journalist, police given seven days to file disclosures

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered the police to file its disclosures in the case in which Emmaneul Kwakye Asare, broadcast Journalist, is being held over publication of false news. Circuit Court 8 ordered that the filing be done within seven days. Filing the disclosures will enable the court to conduct Case Management Conference and fix a date for trial to begin. The matter has been adjourned to September 29, 2025. On August 27, this year, Asare was admitted to GHC100,000 bail after being on remand for over two weeks. This was after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of publication of false news concerning the August 6 helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives. Police arrest suspect in assault on Journalist   

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the recent assault on Mr. Latif Iddrisu, a journalist with JoyNews.    The arrest follows an incident on May 27, 2025, during a protest in front of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.    The demonstration was staged by members of parliament and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the arrest of Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as “Chairman Wontumi,” the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.    A statement issued and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, said Mr. Iddrisu, who was covering the demonstration, was reportedly attacked by some protestors.    It said the ...
