CFI, IDEG call for peace ahead of Akwatia by-election 

The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI) and the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) have called on all stakeholders to ensure peace in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.  In a joint statement, the organisations said while the by-election should proceed without fear or tension, Ghana’s history of by-elections has often been marred by violence, intimidation, misinformation, attacks on journalists, and unchecked vigilantism.  “These acts of aggression have tarnished Ghana’s image as a peaceful and stable democracy in Africa and flagrantly violate the nation’s deeply held values of neighbourliness and communal security,” the  statement signed by Rev. IDEG empowers grassroots participation in constitutional review  

The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) is intensifying efforts to ensure that grassroots voices are meaningfully included in the Constitution Review Committee’s (CRC) nationwide consultations.  The initiative follows the CRC’s launch of zonal consultations across the country aimed at engaging ordinary citizens in the ongoing review process.  At a recent workshop at IDEG’s Greater Accra office, civil society groups, women-led organisations, and community leaders from eight regions- including Bono, Central, Eastern, Oti, Greater Accra, Western, Western North, and Volta— convened to build their capacity on the constitutional review process.   The session focused on strengthening their advocacy skills and ensuring effective grassroots participation in upcoming n...
