Ghana Health Service Responds to Surge in Typhoid Fever Cases in Oti Region

The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council and under the leadership of the Ministry of Health, has stepped up efforts to contain a reported surge in Typhoid Fever cases in parts of the Oti Region. According to health officials, the outbreak has been recorded particularly in the Biakoye, Krachi East, Krachi West, and Krachi Nchumuru Districts. In response, the Ministry of Health has deployed the National Case Management Rapid Response Team to support the regional health team in assessing and managing the situation. Typhoid fever, which is generally endemic in Ghana, is caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. GHS records 10 new mpox cases, urges public vigilance

GHS signs MoU with partners to boost medical training in Upper East

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Accra with two health training institutions to enhance the education and retention of medical specialists in the country. The MoU, signed with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, is expected to strengthen clinical progression for medical officers and increase the specialist workforce. The education and training will first be piloted in the Upper East Region. The Bolgatanga Municipal Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Upper East Region has honoured Mr Clement  Dokurugu, a Nursing Officer for his contribution to healthcare delivery in the Municipality. The Management of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Bolgatanga Municipality, has awarded 15 health professionals, nine facilities and three sub-municipal zones for their contributions to healthcare delivery. GHS urges empowerment of local pharmaceutical companies to produce NTD medications

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has called for local resource mobilization and empowerment of indigenous pharmaceutical companies to produce medications for the treatment of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in Ghana. Dr. Joseph Kwadwo Larbi Opare, Programme Manager of the NTD Programme at GHS, said there was the need for local resources to support the treatment of NTDs, especially as international funding may eventually cease. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Dr. Opare explained that the NTD programme had historically lacked local support, particularly in Mass Drug Administration (MDA).
