NIA Debunks Claims of Reduced Ghana Card Validity Period
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the validity period of the Ghana Card has been reduced from ten (10) years.
In a statement, the Authority clarified that no such amendment to the law has been made or proposed, stressing that the Ghana Card remains valid for ten years from the date of issuance, after which renewal is required.
The NIA explained that comments by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Wisdom Kwaku Deku, at a recent media engagement were misrepresented. According to the Authority, Mr. Deku did not announce any change in policy but merely noted that, in the future, reviews could consider a shorter update interval due to rapid technological advancements and the evolving uses of the Ghana Card.
