Reduction in transport fares will boost the economy – Regional Minister

Mr Wilbert Petty Brentum,  the Western North Regional Minister, says the 15 per cent reduction in transport fares will boost the economy by lowering the prices of goods and services across all sectors. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, the Minister said the reduction was attributed to favourable microeconomic conditions, particularly the continuous appreciation of the cedi against the dollar, which had contributed to the drop in fuel prices.  He said: “The fare reduction is expected to improve food prices since traders often factored transportation cost into their pricing, so they should support this initiative by adjusting their prices downward to reflect this significant progress.” Mr Brentum continued: “Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama...

Government needs an Economic Advisory Council to reset economy-Opong-Fosu

Mr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, Governance and Public Policy Analyst, says the urgency to reset the economy cannot be overstated as Ghana enters a pivotal phase of national renewal under a newly-elected government.   He said the country stands at a critical juncture where bold and inclusive economic reforms were essential not just for short-term recovery, but for long-term sustainability and equity.   Mr Opong-Fosu told the GNA that in this context, the establishment of a statutory Economic Advisory Council (EAC) must be seen not as an option, but as a necessity.   He said Ghana’s past was littered with economic conferences, policy dialogues, and high-level summits that generated reports, communiqués, and headlines but yielded little in terms of lasting outcomes.   He said...

You Either Don’t Read Or Understand Economic Data – Bawumia Replies Mahama

The Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has taken former President John Mahama to the cleaners, exposing what he calls Mahama's dreadful record in all economic indicators. In a fiery delivery at Nungua, in the Krowor Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Bawumia laughed off claims by former President Mahama on his Facebook page that the current NPP government is a failed government. Responding, Dr. Bawumia taunted former President Mahama for not understanding economic data, because if he did, he won't be comparing his "failed government" with the NPP's, when every available economic data shows that the NPP has superior record. "He said he has performed better than us and I said if you believe you performed better, come for a debate. ...
