Minority Accuses President Mahama of Publicity Gimmick in Galamsey Fight — Says government has only rebranded Akufo-Addo’s initiatives

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused President John Dramani Mahama of staging what it describes as a “publicity gimmick” in his recent engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on illegal mining, known locally as galamsey. According to the Caucus, the President’s interaction with selected CSOs was a calculated attempt to downplay the seriousness of the galamsey menace and to mask what it terms as the government’s failed efforts in addressing the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining activities. President John Dramani Mahama has invited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) across the country to a high-level engagement on illegal mining, scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Jubilee House in Accra. The meeting, which begins at 12:00 noon, is expected to serve as a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. Government must urgently resolve the nurses and midwives strike to save lives – CSOs

Civil society organisations (CSOs) in health has called on the government to urgently resolve the nurses and midwives nationwide strike to save lives. The organisations are Ghana NCD Alliance (GhNCDA), the Vision for Accelerated Sustainable Development, Ghana (VAST-Ghana), Stroke Association Support Network, among others. The CSOs in a joint statement signed by Mr Labram Musah, the National Coordinator of GhNCDA, and the Executive Director of VAST-Ghana said as the strike entered its second week, attention must be drawn to the growing humanitarian and public health crisis the action was causing. Research evidence generated by CSOs are underutilised – Report
