Civil society group Democracy Hub has formally notified authorities of its intention to hold a two-day march and picketing event to demand urgent action against illegal mining, widely known as Galamsey. Police Arrest 17 in Samreboi anti galamsey crackdown

Seventeen individuals have been apprehended in a coordinated anti-galamsey operation by the Special Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce from the National Police Headquarters. The operation, carried out on May 25, 2025, targeted illegal mining activities in Samreboi, located in the Western Region of Ghana. The suspects include seven Chinese nationals and ten Ghanaian citizens who were allegedly involved in unauthorized mining operations. According to police sources, all suspects were swiftly transported to Accra on the same day to aid in ongoing investigations.
