Police Probes Alleged Assault on Alhaji Masawudu at Akwatia

The Akwatia District Police Command has launched investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, which reportedly occurred at Akwatia on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. According to the police, the complainant was issued with a medical form and directed to seek treatment at a hospital. The endorsed medical form is expected to be returned to the police to aid ongoing investigations. The case has since been referred to the Eastern South Regional Police Command for further probe. In a statement signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, the police assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice and called for calm as investigations continue.

CFI, IDEG call for peace ahead of Akwatia by-election 

The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI) and the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) have called on all stakeholders to ensure peace in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.  In a joint statement, the organisations said while the by-election should proceed without fear or tension, Ghana’s history of by-elections has often been marred by violence, intimidation, misinformation, attacks on journalists, and unchecked vigilantism.  “These acts of aggression have tarnished Ghana’s image as a peaceful and stable democracy in Africa and flagrantly violate the nation’s deeply held values of neighbourliness and communal security,” the  statement signed by Rev. Two persons arrest at Akwatia over ammunition possession

The police have arrested two persons following the discovery of four live BB cartridges in their vehicle at Akwatia in the Eastern Region. Enoch Asiedu, 32, and Lu Youyan, 58, were nabbed on board a Toyota Hilus Pick up at Boadua Livingstone Junction Snap Check point. The exhibits were found in their vehicle during a search, a police statement said on Saturday. During interrogation, Aseidu said the exhibits belonged to his boss, known as Mohammed, who was the owner of the vehicle.  “The police are making efforts to trace the said Mohammed for questioning,” the statement said.
