The Rotary Club of Accra-Ring Road Central (RRC) on the weekend, officially commissioned and handed over a fully furnished community clinic to the people of Berekuso, near Aburi, in the Eastern Region.
The facility, constructed by the Accra RRC Rotary Club, has consulting rooms, male and female wards, a pharmacy, delivery room, nurses station and a laboratory.
The clinic will provide much-needed maternal, child, and primary healthcare services to the Berekuso community and surrounding areas.

Sponsors of the construction of the facility, at a cost of US$ 200, 000, include Domod Roof Limited, FirstBank Ghana, Primrose Properties, Civicom Ghana Limited and Ashfoam Ghana Limited.
Other sponsors are Zoomlion Ghana Limited, SIC Life Insurance Limited, RPS Engineering, Rotaract Club of RCC, Lawfields Consulting, Lymens Medical Supply Limited, Nita Travels and Tours and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana.
The idea to put up the facility which took three years and two months to construct was mooted when a Rotarian from the Accra RRC Rotary Club was disappointed when she mistook an existing clinic in the community as a grocery store.
For now, that facility, which stands at the dusty street side looks dilapidated and spooky.
The well attended commissioning brought together traditional leaders, health officials, community members, Rotary dignitaries, District Governor Florence Maame Hagan; and Mr Mario César Martins de Camargo, the Rotary International President-Elect (RIPE), who was the Special Guest of Honour.
Mr Martins de Camargo, who is on a visit to Ghana as part of broader tour of selected African countries, praised the project as a reflection of Rotary’s core principles.
“Once we bring a project like this into the world, we are forever responsible for it,” he said.
He urged the stakeholders in the administration and management of the clinic to collaborate to effectively maintain the facility for its longevity.
“Rotary is not about words. Rotary is about works,” Mr Camargo said, and advised local Rotary Clubs to network with other Rotary Clubs, both local and international to expand services, improve facilities, and introduce new screening technologies.
District Governor Hagan said the clinic “is a fruit of a powerful partnership between Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, our District leadership and the unwavering support of Rotary International.
She said the project encompasses Rotary focus areas of maternal and child health, disease prevention and treatment, water, sanitation and hygiene into action.
Mr Albert Bahun-Wilson, the President of Rotary Club Accra RRC, said the club was dedicated to impactful service.
This clinic represents more than bricks and mortar; it is a symbol of compassion and a beacon of hope. Our goal is to ensure that quality healthcare is no longer a privilege but a right, even in the remotest corners,” Mr Bahun-Wilson said.
Oderfuor Oteng Kuranchie II, Overlord of Berekuso and Twafohene of Akuapim Traditional Area, thanked the Accra Ring Road Central Rotary Club for the project.
Oderfuor Kuranchie said: “We had only one clinic here, and when our people fell sick, they often had to travel to nearby towns or even to Accra for medical care.
“We’re grateful for this new facility which will greatly improve healthcare in our community.”
He assured the Club that the Traditional Authority would partner with the management clinic to maintain the facility.
Ms Emily Amponsah, the Municipal Director of Health Services, urged community members to fully patronise the facility.
