Professor Seidu Alidu Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Tamale Central Constituency, has been declared the Member of Parliament (MP)-elect for the area.
He was declared unopposed by the Electoral Commission (EC) in Tamale on Tuesday, September 23, following the official closure of an extended deadline for filling nominations for the bye elections.
The deadline elapsed on Sunday, September 21 with no other political party stepping up to contest the seat.

Prof Mahama had earlier, on September 6, 2025, secured an overwhelming endorsement from NDC delegates in the constituency to lead the party in the contest.
The Tamale Central seat became vacant following the demise of the sitting MP, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025 with seven others.
Mr Muniru Issah, the EC’s Returning Officer for the Tamale Central Constituency, who made the official declaration, stated: “In line with Constitutional Instrument 127, I hereby declare Professor Seidu Alidu Mahama as the MP-elect for the Tamale Central Constituency.”
Prof Mahama expressed profound gratitude to the NDC and the constituents for the confidence reposed in him, and pledged to consolidate the initiatives of the late Dr Murtala Mohammed, and said he would introduce new programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people of the constituency.
