President Mahama to visit Japan and Singapore to boost trade, investment and development cooperation

President John Dramani Mahama is set to embark on an official two-country visit to Japan and Singapore, with the aim of deepening bilateral relations, strengthening trade and investment ties, and advancing cooperation on shared development priorities.

In Japan, the President will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to deliver a presentation at a plenary session on Promoting Trade and Investment. He will also headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, where he will outline the country’s investment opportunities under the Resetting Ghana agenda.

While in Tokyo, President Mahama will hold bilateral discussions with key Japanese partners, including the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), senior representatives of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Talks are expected to focus on trade, technical cooperation, and infrastructure development partnerships.

Following his engagements in Japan, President Mahama will travel to Singapore for a three-day state visit. His itinerary will include a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. He will also deliver an address at a Ghana-Singapore investment forum, highlighting Ghana’s reform agenda and investment priorities while strengthening private-sector linkages between the two countries.

The visits are part of Ghana’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment, expand market access for Ghanaian goods and services, mobilise development and technical cooperation, and build stronger partnerships in technology, infrastructure, finance, and human capital development.

President Mahama and his delegation are expected to depart Accra on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
