President Mahama Suspends All Activities Following Helicopter Tragedy; Declares Three Days of National Mourning

President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all official activities and engagements for the remainder of the week in response to the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including key government officials.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, it was announced that the nation will observe three days of national mourning, commencing Thursday, August 7, 2025. As part of the mourning period, the government has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast until further notice.

The crash, described as a national tragedy, has plunged the country into a state of shock and sorrow, with tributes pouring in from across the globe in honour of the departed.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, stated:

“President Mahama is deeply devastated by this heartbreaking incident. He has suspended all activities and programmes scheduled for the rest of the week to mourn with the nation. We stand with the families and loved ones of the victims in this moment of profound grief.”

The identities of the victims include prominent figures such as Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, among others.

The government has assured the public of a full investigation into the cause of the crash and has pledged support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.

As the country prepares for the official mourning period, Ghanaians are urged to unite in solidarity and reflection to honour the lives and legacies of those lost.
