President Mahama Mourns the Loss of Music Icon Daddy Lumba: “His Legacy Will Echo Through the Ages”

President John Dramani Mahama has joined the nation in mourning the death of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.

In a heartfelt tribute shared shortly after the official announcement of Lumba’s passing, President Mahama expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the music icon, describing him as a genius whose art defined and accompanied the lives of many Ghanaians.

“I have learnt with deep sorrow the passing of Ghanaian music legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba,” President Mahama stated.

He praised Lumba’s exceptional ability to capture life’s emotions through music, saying his songs served as a musical companion through different phases of life for generations of Ghanaians.

“Lumba’s unmatched musical genius provided the soundtrack to our lives, carrying us through various phases of life. The beats to his memorable songs may have died down, but his enduring legacy will echo through the ages,” he added.

On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, President Mahama extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and loved ones of the legendary musician.

“On behalf of the Government of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones for this irreplaceable loss,” he concluded, accompanied by the hashtag #RIPDaddyLumba.

The President’s tribute adds to the growing wave of national grief and tributes being paid to the late artist, whose music career spanned over three decades and left an indelible mark on the soul of Ghanaian music.

Daddy Lumba’s contribution to the highlife genre and his influence on contemporary Ghanaian music remain unmatched. His passing marks the end of an era, but his voice and legacy will forever remain alive in the hearts of the people.
