President Mahama Cancels Fuel Allowances for Political Appointees in Cost-Cutting Drive

In a bold move to curb government expenditure, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate cancellation of all fuel allowances and fuel allocations to political appointees.

The directive, which forms part of a broader strategy to reduce public spending, is intended to redirect national resources into critical sectors and development priorities. According to the President, leadership must lead by example and share in the sacrifices it is asking of the Ghanaian people.

“This decision is a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to prudent economic management,” said Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, who also serves as Minister for Government Communications.

The suspension of fuel allowances comes on the heels of several austerity measures already introduced by the Mahama-led administration. These include a significant reduction in the size of government through fewer ministerial and presidential staff appointments, and a halt to satellite television subscriptions at the Presidency and other government offices.

The decision has sparked public interest, with many viewing it as a necessary and commendable step toward fiscal discipline and accountability in governance.
