President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama have arrived in Beijing, China, to participate in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, a high-level international forum jointly hosted by President Xi Jinping and UN Women.
The two-day meeting, taking place from October 13–14, brings together Heads of State and Government from around the world to renew the spirit of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and to accelerate its implementation in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
This year’s gathering holds particular significance as it coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was also held in Beijing in 1995.

While in China, President Mahama and his delegation will advance Ghana’s commitment to women’s empowerment, sustainable development, and inclusive governance. The visit will also serve to deepen bilateral relations and enhance economic cooperation between Ghana and China.
President Mahama is expected to hold discussions with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, focusing on strengthening Sino-Ghanaian economic partnerships, trade relations, and investment in key sectors such as infrastructure, industry, and agribusiness.
As part of his official engagements, President Mahama will host a Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing. The forum will bring together Ghanaian and Chinese business leaders and investors to explore new opportunities in Ghana’s growing economy. The President and his team will also travel to Fujian Province, where they will engage with Chinese enterprises that have existing or potential operations in Ghana.
The Ghanaian delegation includes the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, senior officials from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the Free Zones Authority, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA).
Also accompanying the President are the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Naa Momo Lartey (MP); Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP); Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza (MP); and Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko (MP).
The delegation further includes the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim; and Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Gyantuah.
Speaking ahead of the forum, Presidential Spokesperson and Member of Parliament, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to advancing gender equality and fostering international partnerships that support national development priorities.
“President Mahama’s participation in this global meeting reflects Ghana’s continued leadership in advocating for women’s empowerment and inclusive progress, both within Africa and globally,” he noted.
The visit underscores Ghana’s commitment to multilateral cooperation, gender inclusivity, and economic diplomacy, key pillars of President Mahama’s foreign policy agenda.
