The Volta Regional Police Command has arrested six individuals, including a woman, in connection with a suspected ritual murder case involving the gruesome killing of a 25-year-old mason, Nelson Anyena.
The deceased, originally from Wusuta in the South Dayi District, had relocated to Mi-Adidome to live with his wife. He was reported missing on December 4, 2024. Following months of covert investigations and support from community members, police operatives apprehended three suspects on June 26, 2025. The suspects were identified as Augustina Fiawoyife, 21, unemployed; Wisdom Hedidor, 31, a herbalist; and Courage Bedzo, also known as Dzidefo, a 31-year-old kente weaver.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three more individuals believed to be complicit in the crime. They include Gblor Noah, alias Ekpedzi, 42, a fetish priest; Yohannes Gblor, 27, a security guard; and John Gblor, 40, a lotto writer. All three were picked up from Mafi Awakpedome, a suburb of Adidome.

Preliminary police findings revealed a chilling plot. On the evening of December 4, 2024, Augustina, acting on the instruction of her boyfriend, Wisdom Hedidor, lured Nelson Anyena under the pretense of having a romantic meeting. The unsuspecting victim was then ambushed and strangled to death by Hedidor and his accomplice, Courage Bedzo.
After the killing, the body was delivered to fetish priest Noah Gblor, who had allegedly earlier commissioned the act by requesting a human body for ritual purposes. According to the police, a sum of GH₵7,000 was paid by the fetish priest and his brothers to the killers before the body was transported and secretly buried at Noah Gblor’s shrine in Blorkorfe.
Acting on intelligence, police obtained a court order from the Ho Magistrate Court on July 3, 2025, to exhume the body. On July 7, 2025, a combined team of detectives led by Volta Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Omari Mic Boakye, and officers from the Environmental Health Unit, carried out the exhumation. The body of Nelson Anyena was discovered, along with two other unidentified bodies buried beneath the same shrine.
The remains were transported to the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for preservation, autopsy, and DNA testing to aid further investigations.
The six suspects are currently in custody and are expected to reappear before the court on August 8, 2025.
The Volta Regional Police Command has commended the public for their assistance in solving the case and has urged the family of the deceased and the community to remain calm as investigations continue to ensure justice is served.
