Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Chairmanship position in the upcoming national executive elections.
In a statement issued and signed by him on Monday, Mr. Afoko said his decision follows “extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders” of the party.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party,” the statement read.

Mr. Afoko, who once led the NPP before his suspension in 2015, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the party’s growth and unity, saying he remains dedicated to the principles upon which the NPP was founded.
“My commitment to the NPP has remained steadfast through the years, and I believe the time has come to contribute, once again, to the rebuilding and strengthening of our Party at this critical juncture,” he said.
He noted that despite past challenges, his focus has always been on fostering unity and ensuring the NPP remains a strong and inclusive political force.
“While the journey has not been without its trials, I have always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP above all else. My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future — one where our Party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people,” Mr. Afoko added.
Mr. Afoko further disclosed that in the coming weeks, he will embark on engagements with party members and the media to outline his vision, ideas, and plans to lead the NPP “with integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose.”
He ended his declaration with a call for collective effort toward the party’s renewal, saying:
“Let us look ahead together. God bless the NPP. God bless our dear country.”
The NPP is expected to hold its national officers’ elections ahead of the 2028 general elections, as the party works to re-organize its structures following its loss in the 2024 polls.
