Over 2000 farmers receive support to boost crop production in Lambussie

Over 2,000 farmers in the Lambussie District have received support to boost crop production and to enhance agricultural productivity in the area.

The initiative, aimed at helping farmers affected by last year’s drought, to have a better yield this season.

It also aimed at boosting food security, promote sustainable agriculture, and to improve the livelihoods of farmers in the district.

The support package included provision of agrochemicals, improved maize seeds, and fertilizers to boost agricultural productivity and crop yields.

Mr Naawulle Ireneous Basingbie, the Lambussie District Chief Executive (DCE) told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that agriculture was the driving force behind national development, and it was therefore imperative to prioritize the sector to ensure sustainable growth and food security.

He noted that the intervention would significantly impact the district’s agricultural landscape and called for more support to achieve sustainable economic development.

The DCE expressed commitment to collaborating with the “Feed Ghana Programme”, which aims to transform the agriculture sector and provide support to farmers.

He noted that the initiatives would build a sustainable and inclusive agricultural sector that not only ensure food security but also drives economic growth and prosperity in the district and beyond.

He said, ” Investing in agriculture is a crucial step in driving national progress and sustainable development of the country’s food security.”

Mr Nambie Nathaniel Zim-meeweh, the Lambussie District Director of Agriculture encouraged beneficiaries to leverage the initiative to increase productivity and crop yields for the season.

He noted that the initiative would increase farmers’ incomes, help them recover losses from the previous year, and promote local economic development.

He emphasised that this initiative would support farmers’ productivity and efficiency, by ensuring that they have access to essential services and resources to boost their crop yields.

” I am confident that the initiative will cushion gallant farmers in the district to have a better harvest this season,” he added.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, which would help increase their crop production.
