One dead, 20 injured in an accident in Cape Coast

The Central Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Tuesday, morning rescued 20 victims of a road crush on the Accra-Cape Coast highway, leaving one dead.

According to the Central Regional Command, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) a stationary Man Diesel truck with registration WR 1546-V, parked on the road shoulder due to a mechanical fault, was hit by a Mercedes Sprinter minibus (registration CR 623-25) travelling toward Cape Coast while overtaking another vehicle.

Assistant Divisional Officer Abdul Wasiu Hudu, GNFS Central Regional Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the crash occurred around 0530 hours.

He said the GNFS on hearing the news, promptly dispatched a rescue team to the scene close to the Central Regional Office of the National Democratic Congress on that stretch of the Accra-Cape Coast Highway.

He said the rescue efforts resulted in the extrication of three trapped individuals from the wreckage, but sadly a female was confirmed dead at the scene.

The remaining 20 injured victims were transported to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital with assistance from the National Ambulance Service and the Road Safety Authority.

He advised driver to always avoid speeding, particularly when their vision is blur and obey all road traffic regulations.
