The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
In a statement signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described Mrs. Agyeman Rawlings as “an epitome of the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women, particularly in political leadership and socio-economic empowerment.”
The statement highlighted her significant contributions to Ghana’s development, particularly through her pioneering work as Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement. Her efforts, the party noted, greatly influenced national policies and laws that advanced the rights of women and children across the country.

Mrs. Rawlings is credited for her instrumental role in the enactment of the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), which safeguards the inheritance rights of women and children. She also played a key role in shaping provisions on gender equality in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, cementing her legacy as one of the country’s foremost advocates for women’s empowerment.
“Ghana has not just lost a mother and a political colossus but also an embodiment of inspiration,” the statement added. The NPP extended its heartfelt condolences to her family and joined the nation in mourning her passing.
The party concluded its message with a solemn tribute: “May the soul of our dearly departed find comfort in God’s bosom, and may the family she left behind, and indeed, all of us, find fortitude to bear this great loss. Damirifa Due!”
Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings served as Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady and remained an influential figure in national affairs long after leaving office. Her legacy as a champion for gender equality and social justice continues to inspire generations.
