The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, who died on Thursday, September 11, 2025, after a short illness.
Widely known as the “Star of Africa”, Apostle Safo was celebrated not only as a religious leader and philanthropist but also as a symbol of African ingenuity and innovation. He was the visionary behind the KOSA network of companies and the Kantanka Group of Companies, which includes Kantanka Automobile—a wholly Ghanaian-owned car manufacturer and one of Africa’s pioneering technology enterprises.
In a statement signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the Party described the late Apostle as a “generational inventor, agriculturist and industrialist” whose works continue to inspire technological advancement and self-reliance in Ghana and across the continent.

Beyond his industrial and spiritual impact, Apostle Safo was also recognized as a firm supporter of the NPP, particularly in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency. His daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, represented the area in Parliament for three terms on the ticket of the Party.
“The NPP is deeply saddened by his passing and extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Kristo Asafo Mission. The Party also commiserates with the rest of the nation for the painful loss of this extraordinary illustrious citizen,” the statement read.
The Party further prayed for strength and fortitude for his family, followers, and the nation as a whole during this difficult period.
Apostle Safo leaves behind a lasting legacy as an inventor, spiritual leader, and patriot whose contributions have shaped Ghana’s social, industrial, and political landscape.
