NPP Denies Allegations of Contract with Ukrainian PR Firm for Smear Campaign

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly refuted allegations that it engaged the services of a Ukrainian public relations firm, Brandcom, to conduct an online smear campaign ahead of the 2024 general elections.

This follows a report published by AllAfrica.com on July 31, 2025, under the headline, “Ukrainian PR Agency Demands $280,000 From Ghana’s NPP for Online Smear Campaign,” which claimed that Brandcom was owed money by the ruling party for digital activities during the previous election cycle.

In a swift and strongly worded response, the NPP described the allegations as “completely false, baseless, and defamatory.” The party insists that it has “no contractual relationship (past or present) with any entity known as Brandcom, based in Ukraine or elsewhere.”

The statement, signed by the National Communications Directorate, emphasized that at no point did the party’s leadership “engage, authorise, or instruct any foreign agency to operate fake social media accounts, produce smear campaign content, or undertake any unethical digital activities.”

Reaffirming its commitment to ethical politics, the NPP stated that it has always run issue-based campaigns rooted in democratic principles and national development policies.

Describing the article as a “deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the party and sow public distrust,” the NPP has called for an immediate retraction of the publication. It also warned that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against both Brandcom and any media outlet that republishes the claims without verification.

As the party continues to prepare for the next electoral cycle, it reiterated its focus on “building a prosperous Ghana through bold, transparent, and ethical leadership.” The party also urged the public and media to be cautious of misinformation from unverified and faceless sources.

This development comes amid increasing scrutiny of political party campaign practices as Ghana continues to strengthen its democratic institutions.
