The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned alleged threats of death and physical assault against some of its senior officials by executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to a statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party expressed concern over threats made against the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin; the National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye; and the Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh. The threats were allegedly issued by Chief Sofo Azorka, the First National Vice Chairman of the NDC, and Alhaji Abdul Wahab Amadu, the Abuakwa North Constituency Communication Officer of the NDC.
The statement further accused Chief Azorka and his associates of physically assaulting the NPP’s Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu. The NPP described the incident as “unprovoked” and “reckless,” stressing that such violent conduct by national and constituency executives of a major political party undermines Ghana’s democratic gains and risks heightening insecurity.

The governing party announced its intention to lodge a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service against the accused individuals. It also urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest and investigate Chief Azorka, Alhaji Abdul Wahab, and others allegedly captured in widely circulated videos of the incident.
“The recklessness of the actions of Chief Sofo Azorka and Alhaji Abdul Wahab ought to be properly investigated and punished,” the statement read.
The NPP warned that failure to address such incidents decisively could further tarnish Ghana’s democratic reputation, especially following the country’s recent decline in the Global Peace Index rankings.
