The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former First Lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a remarkable woman whose life’s work transformed the lives of countless Ghanaian women and children.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC paid glowing tribute to the late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, recognizing her immense contributions to Ghana’s political and social development.
“Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was a remarkable woman whose lifelong commitment to the empowerment of women and children has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history,” the statement read.

The NDC recalled her pioneering work with the 31st December Women’s Movement, through which she championed education, economic empowerment, and social inclusion for women across the country.
As one of the founding pillars of the NDC, Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings played an instrumental role in shaping the party’s ideals and identity. The statement acknowledged that although she later founded another political party, her place in the NDC’s history “will always remain significant.”
Hon. Fifi Kwetey also referenced the party’s 2025 commemoration of June 22, the birthday of the NDC’s founder, the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, where he publicly called for Mrs. Rawlings to be recognized once again as the Founding Mother of the NDC. “We take comfort in knowing that this acknowledgment was made while she was still with us,” he said, noting that it reaffirmed the party’s enduring respect and gratitude for her contributions.
The NDC extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family, especially her children and loved ones, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
“May the soul of Mrs. Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
