Moroccan Embassy in Accra Mourns Ghanaian Officials Killed in Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Accra has extended its deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, and the people of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several top state officials earlier today.

In an official statement issued from its mission in Accra, the Moroccan Embassy expressed heartfelt sympathy over the loss of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; and Hon. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The officials were reportedly en route to Obuasi on a national assignment when their military helicopter went down under circumstances currently under investigation. The crash also claimed the lives of several members of the Ghana Armed Forces and prominent members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“As we mourn the tragic loss of these distinguished leaders, our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families,” the Embassy stated. “May they find solace and fortitude in these difficult times.”

The Kingdom of Morocco joins the international community and Ghanaians in mourning the sudden and devastating loss of national heroes whose contributions to Ghana’s development and security were significant and far-reaching.

President Mahama has since declared a national period of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast across the country.
