Italian Embassy and President Sergio Mattarella Mourn Victims of Ghana Helicopter Crash

The Italian Embassy in Ghana has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior Cabinet Ministers, on Wednesday morning.

In an official statement, the Embassy conveyed sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Ghana, describing the incident as a devastating national tragedy.

“The Italian Embassy expresses sincere and deep condolences for the victims of the tragic crash occurred this morning,” the statement read.

Message from President Sergio Mattarella

In a further show of solidarity, the President of the Italian Republic, H.E. Sergio Mattarella, has personally sent his condolences to President John Dramani Mahama following the heartbreaking news.

The message reflects the close diplomatic ties between Italy and Ghana and reinforces the international community’s shared grief in the wake of the accident.

A Tragic Loss of Leadership

The crash led to the loss of high-profile figures including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as well as six other military and public officials who were reportedly on official duty.

Ghana has since entered a period of national mourning, with tributes and messages of support pouring in from across the globe.

The Italian Embassy’s statement and President Mattarella’s personal message highlight the depth of international concern and empathy as Ghana comes to terms with one of its most painful tragedies in recent history.
