Investigations into the violent incidents that occurred during the Kpokpoi sprinkling ceremony in the Teshie Traditional Area on Tuesday, have commenced to identify and apprehend the perpetrators involved.
The clashes resulted in pelting of stones and sporadic gunfire.
However, the swift intervention of the police restored calm, after which the Paramount Chief, Gbetsoolor Nii Ashitey Akomfrah III, performed his sprinkling rites peacefully as part of the annual Homowo festival celebration.

The announcement of the investigations was made contained in a press statement issued by the Ledzokuku Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Tema office.
It indicated that the ceremony began peacefully at about 0600 hours with the youth engaging in their usual jogging, singing, and dancing, which was disrupted by violent clashes between rival groups.
The statement added that renewed clashes that occurred later in the morning involved factions aligned to different traditional leaders; as a result, several persons sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Lekma Hospital and Family Health Hospital for medical attention.
It further mentioned that two individuals, identified as Eddy Blessing, 30 years, and Patrick Maamah Martey Fio, 27 years, were confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital, with one person who was in a critical condition dying later, on admission.
It also added that the injured persons were receiving treatment, noting that MUSEC and the police worked closely with hospital authorities to manage tensions that arose as family members besieged the emergency units.
The MUSEC assured the public that those found culpable would be made to face the full rigours of the law.
“MUSEC commiserates with the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. We also call on all residents and traditional rulers in Teshie to remain calm and support the ongoing investigation to ensure lasting peace in the community,” it added.
