The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), will on Saturday, 11th October 2025, officially commission a series of completed rural electrification projects in several communities within the Central Gonja District of the Savanna Region.

The beneficiary communities include Zomlampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe, and Nyinyape.

This development represents a major milestone in the Government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to reliable and affordable electricity under the National Electrification Scheme (NES). The initiative forms part of the broader national agenda to promote equitable energy access, enhance socio-economic development, and improve the overall quality of life for citizens in rural and underserved communities.

The commissioning ceremony is expected to draw together traditional authorities, opinion leaders, officials of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), representatives from the Central Gonja District Assembly, and members of the beneficiary communities, reflecting a strong spirit of partnership and collaboration in the country’s rural development agenda.

Speaking ahead of the commissioning, Hon. Jinapor reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that every part of the country benefits from sustainable and modern energy solutions. He remarked:

“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives. Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the bedrock of Ghana’s green and inclusive development.”

The Ministry emphasized that the expansion of electricity to these communities will not only enhance living standards but also open up new opportunities in education, healthcare, commerce, and small-scale industry, thereby contributing significantly to local and national economic growth.
