The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has rendered an unqualified apology to the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, for recent media attacks directed at him.
The delegation, led by former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, immediate past President Dr. Krobea Asante, current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, paid a courtesy call on the Minister to extend the apology and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between nurses and the government.
Hon. Akandoh graciously accepted the apology and urged the Association to prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building strong partnerships with healthcare professionals as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.

The Minister highlighted key achievements of the current administration, including the integration of 13,500 nurses into the government payroll, establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), retooling of government health facilities, and the payment of arrears on nursing training allowances and National Health Insurance claims. He also noted that government has absorbed half of the admission fees for nursing training institutions.
Looking ahead, Hon. Akandoh pledged to ensure the full implementation of the collective bargaining agreement to enhance conditions of service for nurses. He further emphasized the government’s dedication to health sector reforms aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The GRNMA leadership also presented pressing concerns affecting healthcare professionals, urging government to address them urgently to improve service delivery.
The meeting ended on a conciliatory note, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing healthcare in Ghana.
