Government Establishes Children’s Support Fund for Victims of August 6 Tragedy

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the creation of a Children’s Support Fund to secure the welfare and future of children left behind by the victims of the August 6 helicopter crash.

The announcement was made on Friday, August 15, 2025, during a national address. The Fund, according to the Presidency, has already accrued GHS 2,315,000.00 in donations.

Government expressed deep appreciation to Stanbic Bank Ghana, which made an initial seed contribution of GHS 500,000.00, as well as to several corporate organizations whose generosity has boosted the Fund. These include:

  • Procus GH Limited
  • GB Foods Ghana
  • Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd
  • Sage Distribution Ltd
  • Quantum Oil Terminals
  • Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd
  • Newgas Cylinder Ltd
  • Quantum Terminals PLC

The Fund, coordinated by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, is expected to provide educational and welfare support for the affected children.

Donations can be made via Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited (Stanbic Heights Branch, Accra) into the following accounts:

  • GHS Account: 9040013628372
  • USD Account: 9040013628534

Cheques and bank drafts should be made payable to: CHILDREN SUPPORT FUND 6825. A list of donors will be published weekly.

The establishment of the Fund comes as part of the government’s broader commitment to ensure that the dependents of the victims of the tragic crash are not left vulnerable.
