The Government of Ghana has announced the commencement of a coordinated evacuation of students from educational institutions in Bawku, Nalerigu, and surrounding areas, following the imposition of a curfew to curb ongoing tensions in the region.
This decision was communicated shortly after the Ministry of the Interior imposed a curfew in the affected areas, effective from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. starting Sunday, 27th July 2025, and lasting until further notice.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, the curfew is not only a security measure to maintain peace but also a critical step toward ensuring the safe evacuation of students, some of whom have reportedly been targeted in the conflict.

“The curfew is intended to create an environment conducive to the evacuation of all students in various educational institutions in the affected areas,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said in a statement. “Some students have unfortunately been caught in the violence, and government is taking steps to ensure their immediate safety.”
The evacuation effort comes in the wake of escalating unrest, including the recent killing of a student at Bawku Senior High School, which has raised alarm across the country and prompted the temporary closure of several schools.
Authorities are working closely with local security forces, school authorities, and parents to ensure a safe and efficient evacuation process. Government has assured the public that every effort is being made to protect students and restore calm in the region.
