GNFS investigates fire outbreak at Mill Ghana Company Limited in Tema

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced investigations into the cause of a fire outbreak at Mill Ghana Company Limited, located within the GAFCO Yard in Tema.

The investigation aims to determine the source of the blaze and also ascertain the exact floor on which the fire originated.

Divisional Officer II (DoII) Ebenezer Yenzu, Tema Regional Public Relations Officer, GNFS, said a worker who suffered smoke inhalation during the inferno was immediately transported to the GPHA TEMA Clinic, where he was stabilised and discharged.

DOII Yenzu said the GNFS received the emergency call at about 0846 hours, and the first fire appliance arrived on scene at the same time.

He added, however, that, upon arrival, personnel from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Fire and Safety Department had already commenced firefighting operations.

He added that a turntable ladder and two additional appliances from the Tema Newtown and Industrial Area Fire Stations were deployed to support the effort.

He said electric panels, armoured cables, and sections of the company’s production machinery sustained considerable damage.

The PRO explained that although the fire was confined to a specific floor, items on several other floors up to the tenth were also affected.

He further noted that at 1008 hours, the fire was brought under control and was completely extinguished by 12:38 hours, adding that an appliance had been left on standby at the scene to monitor for potential reignition.

Present at the scene were the Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusie Sarpong Ntow, and the Deputy Director of Operations, who both provided operational support and commended the firefighting teams for their swift and coordinated response.

The GNFS has assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to establish the definitive cause of the fire and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
