Ghana has been plunged into mourning following the passing of one of its most iconic and influential musicians, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. The legendary highlife artist passed away earlier today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
The announcement was officially made by the Fosu family in a statement signed by their legal representative, Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., of Baba Jamal & Associates.
“With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba,” the statement read.

A towering figure in Ghanaian music for over three decades, Daddy Lumba was more than just a musician — he was a cultural institution. Known for his timeless voice, emotionally charged lyrics, and charismatic stage presence, Lumba’s music resonated with millions across generations, providing comfort, inspiration, and joy.
“His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the family added.
Throughout his career, Daddy Lumba produced numerous hit songs that transcended trends and political divisions, making him one of the most decorated and respected musicians in Ghana’s history.
As news of his death spreads, tributes are pouring in from fans, celebrities, politicians, and fellow musicians across the country and the diaspora. Many have described his death as an irreplaceable loss to the nation’s cultural heritage.
The Fosu family has requested privacy during this period of mourning as they come to terms with their grief.
“Details of funeral arrangements will be shared in the coming days,” the statement concluded.
