GFZA Responds to Viral Video of Improperly Secured Truck at Tema Free Zone

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has addressed a viral video circulating on social media involving a truck carrying unsecured containers at the Tema Free Zone enclave.

According to the Authority, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a truck with registration number GN 9274-12, transporting two empty 20-foot containers to Krishna Exports Ltd at the Tema Export Processing Zone (TEPZ), was spotted with one of the containers improperly positioned.

Some vigilant citizens intercepted the truck around 11:30 a.m. and reported the matter to the Ghana Fire Service office located within the enclave. Fire officers, together with GFZA officials, immediately responded and engaged a forklift operator to reposition and secure the container. The truck was cleared to continue its journey to the company’s premises by 3:30 p.m.

The GFZA acknowledged that the lapse was not detected by its security personnel at the point of entry and expressed regret over the oversight. The Authority, however, commended the vigilance of the citizens who intervened to prevent what could have been a major safety hazard.

“Immediate steps have been taken to engage the company, and appropriate action will be pursued in line with the Authority’s rules and regulations. In addition, monitoring measures will be intensified and security checks strengthened to ensure such incidents do not recur,” the GFZA stated.

The Authority also issued a strong caution to all companies operating within the enclave to strictly adhere to safety protocols when transporting containers and cargo. It warned that non-compliance would attract sanctions.

Reassuring the public, the GFZA emphasized that the Tema Free Zone enclave remains under constant security surveillance and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and compliance across all its facilities nationwide.
