Gender Ministry Mourns Victims of Helicopter Crash and Road Accident

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed profound grief over the tragic deaths of eight people in a military helicopter crash and 16 children in a separate road accident.

In a statement signed by the sector Minister, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Ministry extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, colleagues, and communities affected by the devastating incidents.

The statement described the August 6 helicopter crash — which claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers, other government officials, and military officers — as a painful national tragedy and a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve the country.

“This loss is a wound that goes beyond institutions, a grief felt in every mother’s tears, every child’s question, and every stunned silence echoing across the nation. These were men of vision, fathers, sons, and brothers who served not only with a sense of duty but also with deep compassion,” the Ministry said.

The MoGCSP also commiserated with the families and community affected by the road accident that killed 16 children returning from a church activity. The Ministry pledged its unwavering support, assuring the grieving families of prayers, solidarity, and assistance during this period and beyond.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all bereaved families, with particular concern for the children and mothers left behind. These young ones now face life with a painful absence, one that no child should ever have to endure,” the statement added.

The Ministry called on the public to join in mourning, offering comfort and support to those whose lives have been forever changed.

“As a nation, we must come together to comfort, support, and uphold those affected. The legacies of these courageous individuals will not fade away. Their aspirations for a just, safeguarded, and equitable Ghana will be upheld passionately and faithfully,” the statement concluded.

The nation continues to mourn as tributes pour in for the victims of both tragedies.
