The President of The Gambia has extended a heartfelt message of condolence to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, and the people of Ghana following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight senior government and military officials on Wednesday.
In a message shared on behalf of the Government and people of The Gambia, the Gambian leader expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with Ghana during this period of national mourning.
“On behalf of the Government & the people of #Gambia, I extend my deepest condolences to Your Excellency @JDMahama, the families & the people of #Ghana on the tragic accident that took the lives of 8 senior members of your Government while on duty,” the statement read.

A Regional Show of Solidarity
Among those who lost their lives in the crash were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, both of whom were reportedly on official state duty. The accident has triggered an outpouring of grief across Ghana and the wider region.
The Gambian President joined the many African leaders who have sent messages of support to Ghana, emphasizing a shared sense of loss across the continent.
“I pray that their souls rest in peace,” he added, offering prayers for the departed and strength for the grieving nation.
Ghana in Mourning
President Mahama has since declared a period of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast across all state institutions. The incident has been described as one of the most painful national tragedies in recent memory, prompting condolences from world leaders, foreign missions, and international organizations.
The Gambian leader’s message highlights the strong diplomatic and brotherly ties between the two West African nations, as Ghana continues to receive waves of international support.
