The Ga Traditional Council has firmly distanced itself from recent developments surrounding a self-styled Igbo king in the Ga State, expressing strong disapproval over the actions of Eze Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, who has assumed the title “King of the Igbos in Ghana.”
In a press release issued after an emergency meeting held on July 9, 2025, and chaired by His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, the Council unanimously resolved several key positions on the matter.
The Council stated emphatically that it does not recognize Eze Dr. Ihenetu, nor does it acknowledge any individual holding the title of Igbo King within the Ga State. It clarified that no person can be recognized by the Ga Traditional Council without being officially registered in the National Register of Chiefs, as mandated by law.

“The Ga Traditional Council is a creation of statute, and the recognition of persons and their induction has always been conditional upon lawful procedures,” the statement read.
The Council further directed that Eze Dr. Ihenetu should cease and desist from any further activities or representations as a traditional leader within Ga territory. Additionally, all individuals who have been appointed as Paramount or Divisional Chiefs by Dr. Ihenetu were warned to refrain from parading themselves in such capacities within the Ga State.
Moreover, the Council banned all traditional and cultural events organized under the banner of Igbo customs or culture led by Eze Dr. Ihenetu, describing such activities as unauthorized and misleading.
This move by the Ga Traditional Council follows mounting concerns over the growing tension between indigenous and non-indigenous traditional systems within the Accra metropolis, and what some see as an encroachment on established traditional structures.
The Council’s decision is likely to stir further discussion around ethnic identity, cultural autonomy, and the limits of traditional authority in Ghana’s pluralistic society.
As of the time of this publication, there has been no official response from Eze Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu or his representatives.
