Foundation donates sanitary pads, stationery to Kpatia schools

The BJL Koumase Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has donated sanitary pads and educational materials to pupils of the Kpatia Primary and Junior High Schools in the Talensi District.

The items included 96 sanitary pads for adolescent girls, and writing materials such as 300 exercise books, boxes of pens, pencils, and erasers for both boys and girls.

The donation was part of the Foundation’s efforts to promote education and menstrual hygiene among schoolchildren in deprived communities.

At a brief ceremony to present the items to the pupils, Reverend Joseph Danso Kobre, Head of Operations, BJL Koumase Foundation, said the gesture was in honour of the late Benedict Joseph Labre Kumasi, former headteacher of the Bawku Senior High School, who passed away in 2024.

Speaking on behalf of Ms Nancy Kumasi, Chief Executive Officer, and Ms Tyhra Carolyn Kumasi, Director, BJL Koumase Foundation, he said the Foundation was established to keep the legacy of the late educationist alive by supporting children and communities through sustainable development, education, and health initiatives.

“Our mission is to empower communities to achieve their full potential. By supporting education and promoting menstrual hygiene, we hope to remove some of the barriers that prevent children, especially girls, from staying in school,” he stated.

Reverend Kobre, who prayed for the pupils and their teachers, urged them to take their education seriously to ensure they become responsible citizens in society and contribute to the development of the country.

He reiterated the commitment of the BJL Koumase Foundation to reaching more schools and communities across the region in the coming years as it works to secure funding and expand its operations.

Mr Clement Baba Amoah, the Headteacher of Kpatia Primary School, expressed gratitude to the Foundation and said the donation would help improve academic performance and school attendance, especially among female pupils who often missed school during their menstrual periods.

He prayed for the expansion of the Foundation to ensure it continues to support vulnerable children in rural areas, especially in accessing education.

Some of the pupils who received the items said they were motivated by the gesture and pledged to study harder to become responsible citizens in the future.

Ms Jamilatu Tindaan, a JHS Two pupil, said the support was laudable and had boosted their confidence, and she pledged to study hard to pass her examinations.
