Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has joined the rest of the nation in mourning the devastating loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians in a tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
In a solemn statement released following the official announcement by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, the former President described the incident as a national tragedy that has left the entire country “profoundly shocked and saddened.”
The crash claimed the lives of:

- Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment and Science & Member of Parliament for Tamale Central
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong – National Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
Nana Akufo-Addo revealed that he had personally reached out to President John Dramani Mahama and NDC National Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to convey his condolences and express solidarity during this time of national mourning.
“I condole with our gallant men of the Ghana Air Force at this concerning time and salute their indispensable role in the public life of our country,” the former President stated, acknowledging the military personnel who also lost their lives while in service to the nation.
He extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, describing the fallen officials and officers as patriots who served Ghana with distinction.
“May they find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again,” Nana Akufo-Addo concluded.
The military helicopter crash has triggered an outpouring of grief across the country, with national leaders, institutions, and the public expressing sorrow over the unexpected loss of key figures in government and the armed forces. Funeral and memorial arrangements are expected to be communicated in the coming days.
