Final Reminder: Media accreditation for World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 closes 16 May 2025

World Athletics would like to remind media representatives wishing to cover the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, taking place from 13 to 21 September 2025, that they can register for media accreditation online.

Media accreditation

To access the World Athletics online media accreditation system, press and photographers will need a specific access code. If you do not have an access code but wish to attend, please contact your national athletics federation.

Please note that a country quota is applied for media accreditation at the World Athletics Championships.

Media accommodation

Media representatives requiring accommodation should request it when applying for accreditation. The booking deadline for major hotels is 8 July 2025, except for the Washington Hotel (Main Building and Annex Building), which has a limited number of rooms and an earlier deadline of 12 May 2025.

Reservations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability cannot be guaranteed after these dates. However, the accommodation team will make every effort to assist.

Payment and cancellation:
Policies are outlined in the Accommodation tab of the registration form. A full deposit is required to secure your booking:

For the Washington Hotel (Main Building and Annex Building), payment must be made by 15 May 2025.

For all other media hotels, payment is due by 15 July 2025.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) will issue an invoice and charge the deposit only after the accreditation request has been approved by World Athletics.

Media visas

Media representatives will be able to enter their visa-related details within their application. Once media approval is granted, the LOC’s visa team will issue invitation letters from July 2025, as Japanese visa applications can only be done from three months before competition and is valid for only three months.

Media accreditation guidelines

World Athletics has published its media accreditation guidelines for World Athletics Series (WAS) events, effective from 2025. These guidelines, now available under the ‘media’ section of the World Athletics Library, represent a step in adapting to the evolving needs and practices of global media and independent professionals.

Non-right holders application

Non-rights holders can register through the World Athletics Series Broadcasters Accreditation System: https://www.wasaccreditation.net/wasbas/ 

 Once the account has been set up and approved, non-rights holders will be able to use the same credentials across all WAS events.

Content creator accreditation

Content creators covering a WAS event for editorial purposes only can apply for accreditation directly with World Athletics.

Application process:Create an account on the WASCC platform.World Athletics will review applications (accreditation is not guaranteed).If approved, you will receive a confirmation email and can proceed with the full accreditation process, including accommodation and travel details.Once approved, the same account can be used for future WAS Events.Please note that World Athletics reserves the right to impose limits on content creator accreditation where necessary.
