EU High Representative Mourns Death of Ghanaian Ministers in Helicopter Crash

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.

In a condolence message addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, the EU diplomat described the two ministers as individuals who demonstrated “a profound personal commitment to the Ghana-EU partnership.”

“It is with deep regret that I have learnt of the passing away of the Hon. Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Hon. Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and the other passengers and crew,” the statement read. “Please receive, in my personal capacity, my heartfelt condolences for this terrible loss. My thoughts are with the families of the victims, and the people of Ghana.”

The fatal crash has drawn an outpouring of condolences from across the globe, as Ghana mourns the loss of prominent leaders and dedicated public servants.
