The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and seven other citizens in the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash.
In a statement signed by EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission described Dr. Omane Boamah as a valued and committed member of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), renowned for his vocal contributions and dedication to strengthening Ghana’s democratic and electoral processes.
“Dr. Omane Boamah was an active and dedicated member of the IPAC and was well-known for his vocal contributions. His absence at our meetings will be felt,” the statement read.

The EC extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana, assuring them of its thoughts and prayers during this period of national mourning.
The statement concluded with a prayer for the departed, saying, “May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
The helicopter crash has been described as one of the most devastating incidents in recent years, claiming the lives of prominent public figures and military officers who served the nation with distinction.
