ECG Raises Alarm Over Vandalism of Installations

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has expressed deep concern over the increasing vandalization of its installations by unidentified individuals posing as staff of the company.

According to ECG, critical assets such as transformers, poles, earth wires, fuses, and cables are being deliberately destroyed by these criminals, who steal essential components for their personal gain. The company explained that such acts often result in widespread power outages, disrupting services to thousands of customers.

In a statement, ECG emphasized that only its official staff are authorized to operate installations, adding that legitimate workers can be identified through staff ID cards, ECG-branded reflector vests, and official vehicles.

The company further reminded the public that it has prosecutorial authority under Executive Instrument (EI) 38 of the Appointment of Public Prosecution Instrument, 2010, which empowers it to take legal action against persons engaged in these criminal activities.

ECG has appealed to the public to assist in safeguarding its installations by reporting suspicious individuals or activities. Reports can be made to the nearest police station, any ECG office, or through the company’s official contact channels, including its call center (0302611611), the ECG PowerApp, and verified social media handles (@ECGghOfficial on Facebook, X, and Instagram).

“Help ECG to serve you better,” the statement urged.
