CAF holds brainstorming workshop for youth football excellence and academies

In a significant gathering of football development professionals and leading Academies in Africa, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) hosted its pivotal Academies Meeting on 4 December, 2024, in Cairo, Egypt. CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba said the brainstorming event presented a new and critical opportunity for African football to collectively strategize and enhance youth development across the continent. This was the first of many planned engagements with Academies and youth structures in Africa. CAF President Dr Motsepe conveys condolences to the victims Guinea stadium tragedy

The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) President Dr Patrice Motsepe is deeply saddened by the stadium stampede in Guinea that has reportedly claimed the lives of over 50 football fans and and left others injured during a football match at the Stade du 3 Avril in N'Zérékoré. The tragedy occurred during a frieldy football tournament between city of N'Zérékoré and city of Labe. CAF President Dr Motsepe conveys his and CAF’s deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, the Fédération Guinéenne de Football (“FGF”) Leadership and the people of Guinea. Dr Motsepe also wished a speedy recovery to the injured football fans. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.

CAF has unveiled the nominees for the prestigious Goal of the Year category at the #CAFAwards24, with fans to get the chance to have their say over who wins the prestigious award. The shortlist created by an expert CAF Technical Panel features 11 goals scored in CAF competitions between January and October 2024, reflecting the incredible talent of players across the continent. Voting opens today and ends on Thursday, 12 December, 2024. To facilitate voting, CAF has created a dedicated platform available on the CAF website and official social media channels. Madagascar (men and women) get wins over Rwanda and Egypt respectively to win the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2024 on December 1.  It was a dominant run from the men as they went unbeaten on their way to the final, last defeating a gritty Algerian side in the Semis. The team had been firing on all cylinders, led on offense by Elly Randriamampionona and Livio Ratianarivo but getting big contributions from the remaining duo.  The final against Rwanda was as one-sided as it gets. The home side couldn’t be stopped as they caught fire from deep. Livio, who had been unstoppable on the day, put up 11 points in the resounding result.
