The High Commission of Canada in Ghana has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Ghana following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two serving Cabinet Ministers.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Canadian mission expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
“The High Commission of Canada extends heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Ghana on the tragic loss of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed,” the statement read.

Canada’s message also acknowledged the loss of six other individuals in the crash: Mr. Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah—all of whom were either public officials or members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
“Our sincere condolences also for the deaths of Mr Mohammed, Dr Sarpong, Mr Aboagye, Squadron Leader Anala, Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Mensah. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and all those mourning this unimaginable loss. May they rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
An Outpouring of Global Sympathy
The message from the Canadian High Commission adds to a growing wave of tributes and condolences from local and international leaders, institutions, and foreign missions as Ghana observes a period of national mourning. President John Dramani Mahama has ordered national flags to fly at half-mast, with Ghanaians across the country in a state of grief.
The victims, who perished in the line of duty, were reportedly traveling on official assignments when their helicopter went down. Their deaths have left a deep void in Ghana’s political, security, and public service sectors.
As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, the Canadian High Commission’s message stands as a gesture of solidarity and support from one of Ghana’s long-standing diplomatic partners.
