Bono East residents laud 24-hour economy initiative, anticipate implementation

The Chiefs and people of the Bono East Region on Thursday lauded the 24-hour economy initiative and appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to expedite action on the implementation of the policy for job creation and poverty reduction.

According to them, the implementation would not only tackle the growing unemployment rate in the country, but also greatly build a resilient economy for wealth creation.

They spoke to the GNA at Kintampo ahead of the President’s “Thank You Tour” to the Bono East region.

The President is expected to address a durbar of the chiefs and people of the region at Kintampo to thank the electorate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 electoral victory.

Mr Dauda Nassir, an opinion leader at Yeji in the Pru East District of the region noted that the 24-hour economy would offer employment opportunities to solve the unemployment problem in the district and Yeji in particular.

“We believe that the implementation of the 24-economy will address the economic needs of the masses, and we plead with President Mahama to implement the policy,” Madam Joan Boateng, a Trader at the Kintampo Yam Market stated.

Mr Kwasi Acheampong, a livestock keeper, said he also hoped to see a booming livestock industry for the sector to also participate meaningfully in the implementation of the 24-hour economy and to create more jobs.

Madam Veronica Awuni, a Fashion Designer, said she also expected the rolling of the National Apprenticeship Programme for more of the youth to engage in employable skills training and thereby build the nation’s entrepreneurship sector.

Some of the businesses in the town also commended the President for the appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar and called on the government to do more to build a conducive environment for the private sector to thrive and stabilize the economy.
