The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that the bodies of the eight victims of the tragic Z-9 military helicopter crash have been successfully transported to Accra today, Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The remains were flown aboard a Ghana Air Force CASA aircraft and received with solemn ceremony at the Air Force Base in Accra by a high-powered delegation led by the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Hon. Julius Debrah, members of the Military High Command, and other government officials, family members, and well-wishers.

The deceased include Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other military and government personnel who were on board the Z-9 helicopter that crashed near Sikaman, close to Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, earlier this morning.

All eight bodies were recovered from the crash site after an intensive joint operation involving military personnel, local residents, and other security services. The remains have since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital Morgue in Accra, where preparations are underway for their eventual interment.

In a statement issued by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, appreciation was extended to the people of Sikaman, security agencies, and all those who assisted in the recovery efforts.

“The Ghana Armed Forces once again wishes to thank the good people of Sikaman and all security services for their support during the recovery effort,” the statement read.

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Brogya Genfi, together with the Military High Command, also conveyed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims, describing the incident as a “difficult national tragedy.”

Further details regarding funeral arrangements and national memorial services are expected to be announced in the coming days.
