Azumah Resources, Upwest Resources Transfer Ownership of Gold Projects to Engineers & Planners

Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ltd, owners of the Black Volta and Sankofa Gold Projects, have officially transferred full ownership of the companies to Engineers & Planners Company Ltd (E&P).

The transaction, which has been duly registered at the Registrar of Companies, follows extensive negotiations and legal proceedings that highlighted the complexities of international investment in Ghana’s mining sector. With the completion of the transfer, Engineers & Planners, a wholly Ghanaian-owned firm, now takes charge of advancing the projects toward production.

Established in 2014 under leases granted by the Government of Ghana, the Black Volta and Sankofa projects have long been recognized for their significant gold potential. However, challenges in raising sufficient capital left them undeveloped. The change in ownership marks a major turning point, unlocking the pathway for development that is expected to benefit both the national economy and communities in the Upper West Region.

Azumah Resources Ghana and Upwest Resources Ghana expressed appreciation to government institutions, regulatory agencies, local stakeholders, and their workforce for their support and commitment throughout the project’s history.

With nearly three decades of experience in mining and civil engineering, Engineers & Planners is regarded as one of Africa’s leading indigenous firms. Its entry into the projects is seen as a decisive step toward bringing the assets into full-scale gold production.

Industry analysts say the deal underscores Ghana’s continued attractiveness as a mining investment destination, while also highlighting the importance of aligning strategic assets with operators who possess both technical expertise and financial strength.

Azumah and Upwest described the transaction as a “watershed moment” and expressed confidence that Engineers & Planners is well positioned to deliver on the projects’ long-term potential.
