The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced the approval of a request by the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd. (Ghana Gas) to undertake a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant from August 16 to August 30, 2025.
According to a statement signed by Richmond Rockson, Esq., Spokesperson and Head of Communication at the Ministry, the temporary shutdown is a key step in ensuring the continued safe and reliable operation of the facility.
During the two-week period, Ghana Gas will suspend gas supply to allow for critical maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and upgrades to essential equipment and systems. The Ministry noted that these measures aim to enhance the plant’s operational efficiency and overall performance.

To address possible concerns about power supply disruptions, the Ministry said it has worked closely with key power sector stakeholders to implement contingency plans. These include the deployment of alternative fuel sources to maintain stable and uninterrupted electricity across the country.
The Ministry assured the public of its commitment to reliable energy supply and promised regular updates on the progress of the maintenance work.
The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, located in the Western Region, plays a vital role in Ghana’s energy infrastructure by processing natural gas for power generation and industrial use.
